Andrew Shaw and William Carter conclude much-publicised case concerning misconduct in public office

6 October 2016

A female prison officer has admitted misconduct further to forming a relationship with a convicted murderer. Sian Cooper, 52, became the second member of jail staff to have an 'inappropriate relationship' with Alan Dalby, a murderer who strangled his girlfriend in 2002, who was serving a life sentence. Ms Cooper met Dalby whilst working at HMP Warren Hill as a Sports & Education tutor. Further to sending explicit pictures of herself to Dalby, she continued to conduct an illicit relationship with him for 11 months. Dalby had been involved previously with a female prison officer who resigned over her alleged relationship with him whilst he was at HMP Swaleside on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent.
