Barnaby Hone successfully applies for one of the first ever Account Freezing Orders
19 March 2018
Barnaby Hone, instructed by Eastern Region Crime Unit, recently successfully applied for one of the first ever Account Freezing Orders under s.303Z1. Account Freezing Orders were introduced by the Criminal Finance Act 2017 and came into force on the 21st January 2017. Barnaby applied for the order to seize three accounts which were suspected of being used for laundering the proceeds of crime.
Although there has been a relatively slow start to this type of order being implemented, it is likely that a lot more will follow, and that it will be seen as a cheaper alternative to Civil Recovery.
