Isobel Ascherson gains acquittal for teenager charged with attempted murder

29 October 2019

Isobel Ascherson, instructed by Alison Muir of Metcalfe Copeman & Pettefar Solicitors, recently appeared on behalf of a nineteen year old girl (eighteen at the time of the alleged offence) who was charged with attempted murder who stabbed her mothers boyfriend circa fifteen times. The trial, at Norwich Crown Court, lasted five days. The accused, Shanice Myers, attacked her mother’s partner with two knives upon witnessing an argument between Daniel Paul and her mother.

Myers told Norwich Crown Court of a history of abuse and violence Mr Paul used to inflict on her mother. Under cross-examination, Myers said she feared he was "going to end up doing something terrible to her" when she heard them arguing. "Both of them was arguing and it was getting aggressive and heated," she said. A jury of nine men and three women found Miss Myers not guilty on both counts.
