Wayne Cleaver, leading Joanne Eley, opens the prosecution case in Operation Gryphite

Wayne Cleaver and Joanne Eley opened the case of Regina v Whittle (known as Operation Gryphite) yesterday. The defendant, Simon Whittle, is on trial at Chelmsford Crown Court for the murder of Natalie Hastings. The prosecution allege that the defendant harboured a grudge against the deceased and deliberately used his car as a weapon to mow her down in cold blood on the streets of Hemel Hempstead. The defendant contends that although he was driving the car he was not responsible for the fatal collision as his passenger took control of the vehicle. Wayne and Joanne are instructed by Thames & Chiltern CPS and Herts Major Crime Unit. More information will follow as the trial progresses, for initial report see link to BBC below:
